Hydrating your littles

Between the cranked up AC and sizzling summer heat, staying hydrated is challenging especially if your kids are not fans of good old water! Because water is the basis of all reactions in the human body, not having enough of it causes a dramatic impact on mood and energy levels so try out these tips to keep the spirits high and the grumpiness at bay!

 

1. Funky water bottles

Nothing like a funky new water bottle to get the kiddies reaching for some H2O! We suggest a range of various glass or aluminum bottles to keep the excitement up! 2.Curly straws

Kiddies love curly straws! You can expriement with a variety of colours and shapes and chances are they will spend a good 10 minutes sucking on the straws without realizing how much of the water/juice is going into their bodies!

3.Infused water

Water remains the best way to stay hydrated but it’s not always that easy to get the kids (and adults) to drink the required daily amount as good old water. A simple trick is infused water, simply add a few slices of their favourite fruit to a jug of water and allow to stand in the fridge for a short while. All the tasty goodness seeps into the water and you’ll have a refreshing drink on hand! Berries, watermelon and mint work well and the combinations are endless!

4.Popsicles

Who doesn’t love ice-cream on a hot day, popsicles are simply the healthier versions. This delicious recipe is packed full of electrolytes and water to keep your kids refreshed and hydrated!

  • 2 cups of berries
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup yoghurt
  • 1/2 cup of juice
  • 1 tablespoon of maple syrup (optional)

Divide between 8 freezer pop molds/small plastic cups with an ice-cream stick in. Freeze for 1 - 2 hours and Hey Presto, healthy and delicious!

5.Fresh fruit

Summer fruits are so bright an colourful that having a variety within reach is usually so tempting you’ll run low on supplies before you even notice! Make sure to stock up on fruits high in water content such as watermelon, peaches, oranges, pineapple and melons. If you’re feeling inspired you can be creative and make fruit kebabs or fruit animals like these from LaughWithUs to further entice.
