Quick and Simple Spring Bonnets
If you're like us in thinking that the Spring Break is fast approaching and we can take a breather from school projects, be warned! It is Spring and that means that in all likelihood you will shortly be getting a notification of a Spring Bonnet Parade at school. And guess what, there will be photos and prizes and all the usual pressures associated with dress-up days! Don't worry, we've collected a couple of quick and simple ideas!
1. For the ecologically savvy mom:
I don't know about you, but our house is full of art and craft activities, from school to playdates, the amount of creative goodies that the little ones bring home is both impressive and overwhelming. We've started to limit the number of items stored at home to three per kiddo. As new ones come in, they get to review their collections and choose the three they wish to keep. The rest goes to the recycling bins. We have also started to up-cycle our arts and crafts and Easter Bonnet time is the perfect opportunity. Let your imagination run rampant for ideas, but if you need some inspiration, we found this simple one using newspapers as a base. From there you can add last year's plastic eggs or any other odd bits you may have lying around. Add to that a milk jug bunny basket and you are sorted!
2. For the mom of girls:
Easter bonnets are very much a girly thing and you can go crazy with the extras you add on! This is a great example and includes an instructional video to get you going! Get creative by adding butterflies, glitter, bunnies, eggs and feathers and your princess will be pirouetting around the entire day!
3. For the mom of boys:
Of course, having said how Spring and Easter are so perfectly suited for girly hats, there are some amazingly cute and simple ideas for boys' bonnets too! Take a look at this chick or bunny bonnet from Krokotak. All you need is some coloured cardstock, glue and scissors are you're good to go! This is on our list for this year's parade!
4. For the last-minute moms:
I will happily categoriase myself into this group and feel no shame because honestly, sometimes life does not go quite as you anticipated and last minute is better than bare-headed! This is pretty simple, but if you need instructions, head here. Depending on what your drawers and cupboards hold you can add some cotton balls to up the cuteness.
5. For the craftily gifted moms:
Oh my hat (no pun intended)! I have hat envy and mommy envy, this is magnificent! If you are brave enough or talented enough or even just optimisitic enough, the complete how to is avalable on the Childhood101 website. Good luck!
So while at the start of the week the idea of making a bonnet drew a complete blank in my mind, there really are some fantastical ideas out there. For more inspiration see our Pinterest board and happy crafting mommies!
